QUEST FOR SLEEP

As night arrives, exhausted, I fall into bed

Push out of my mind thoughts of the day done and days yet to come

Ease and slow my breathing, relaxing my body

Birds calling for their mates to return to their nest

Listen to the odd car pass by … the distinctive sound soothing

Distant train whistle lulls me as it nears becoming louder, adding clanks of the track travelled beneath it

Cool breezes sweep over my body, a light sheet the only barrier between us

As much darkness as I can gather around me
