POETRY FREE VERSE – PEOPLE WATCHING

PEOPLE WATCHING

Something many of us do

Curiosity or criticism?

Two pretty mid-twenty girls

walk by holding hands

steal a quick kiss

and smile as a challenge

An extremely obese woman

in a motorized cart

scowling at the crowd

eyes stare forward in avoidance

The goth teenager

dressed all in black

with an act of bravado

fashion is his death statement

Group of young adults

with many piercings

and extreme haircuts and color

in society wanting to be different

Bikers and artists

tattoo covered bodies

wear leather

a strong show of defiance

Parents with children

loaded down with supplies

patience tested

the look of exhaustion

And when I get up

to walk again

what do other

people watchers

see in me?
